VIVO’s mission is to directly support artists and independent community-based producers to develop, exchange, and disseminate their skills in a supportive environment through accessible services and programs.
By facilitating the symbiotic relationship between a diversity of contemporary technologies that coalesce around new forms of knowledge and creativity, VIVO’s programs foster formal, aesthetic, and critical approaches to media arts practices. VIVO builds engaged audiences through residencies, lectures, workshops, performances, curated exhibitions, and archival research. Through the extensive resources of Western Canada’s largest repository of media art history, the Crista Dahl Media Library and Archive (CDMLA), VIVO plays a unique role in informing the art practice and its curatorial direction in the region. In recent years VIVO has also continued to widen its commitment to advancing and challenging the conventions of media arts and video by presenting initiatives that critically engage in their social manifestations and political realities and further our organizational commitment to interdisciplinary and intergenerational models.
