Dr Eugenia Fratzeskou

Dr Eugenia FratzeskouBA (Hons) Fine Art: Painting, MA Fine Art: Drawing, PhD Site Specific Digital Art London-based artist, researcher, writer, editor, critic, educator (b. Athens, 1979). Pioneering types and processes of digital site-specific art and drawing have been the outcomes of her research leadership of international research projects since 2000. Her work has advanced a wider discourse on digital visualisation systems and virtual environments in site-specific, digital media art and architecture, through inventing methodologies for mapping the invisible inter-passages between virtual and actual architectural spaces within new types of site-specific virtual environments. She has created new relationships between art, architecture, philosophy, computer science and virtual reality. Her expertise expands into the relationship between symbolic logic, Boolean set operations, algebraic, geometrical processes, VR, built architecture and cosmology. Her qualifications include an AHRC-funded practice-based PhD in digital site-specific art (Oct. 2002 – Mar. 2006, University of Surrey/Wimbledon College of Art, London), AHRC-funded MA Fine Art : Drawing (2002, WCA), BA (Hons) in Fine Art Painting (2001, WCA), Foundation Diploma in Fine Art : Painting (1998, Chelsea College of Art & Design, University of the Arts London) and a CLTAD certificate in Higher Education teaching. Eugenia lectures at the MA Architecture & Digital Media, University of Westminster and has been a visiting critic for MA Architecture & Urbanism, Architectural Association School of Architecture, London. Notably, her work was presented in the 53rd & 50th Venice Biennale, Tate Britain 2003, ISEA 2010-2, London Festival of Architecture/Cultural Olympiad 2012, ABC: MTL 2012-3 (Canadian Centre for Architecture), Marks in Space: Drawing & Sculptural Form exhibition, Usher Gallery, Lincoln, 2004 (with Cornelia Parker, Liam Gillick and others), the 10th Anniversary of New York Digital Salon, MARCEL, Centre for Interactive Network Arts launch and development (WCA), The Mall Galleries, Gallery K, University College London and ING Barings, London, and many others.Major prizes include Gold Medals & Awards of Excellence in Fine Art by the Greek Government and Chelsea College of Art & Design (1990-1998). Eugenia has been interviewed by the international press (LGR, etc.). Her work is cited and featured in doctoral theses, books, archives and journals such as Intute and Digicult, as well as those of the University of the Arts London, Architectural Association, London, Sandberg Instituut, Netherlands and others.
