Guess what, NYC? The art fair rodeo is back! So much to do, it's overwhelming. I've pulled together a few media art-specific highlights below. But first, I want to remind readers that Rhizome is at the Armory Show, located at Pier 94, in booth L-26. We're selling work by Harm van den Dorpel, Sara Ludy, Takeshi Murata, Seth Price, Anne de Vries and Rafaël Rozendaal to support the organization, come say hello.
► Moving Image
What: Contemporary video art fair, representing both galleries and non-profit institutions. I checked this out yesterday, and Glen Fogel's installation With Me...You in the middle of the hall, organized by Participant, Inc., was quite nice. (Image below)

Hours: Friday - Saturday, March 4-5, 2011: 11 am - 8 pm, Sunday, March 6, 2011: 11 am - 3 pm
Organized by Participant, Inc at the Moving Image
► INDEPENDENT
What: Contemporary art fair conceived by Elizabeth Dee (Elizabeth Dee, New York and founder of X Initiative) and Darren Flook (Hotel, London) in the former DIA Center for the Arts building. Go here to see what some of the more innovative galleries from the U.S. and Europe are up to.
Location: 548 W 22nd Street, on the south side between 10th Avenue and the West Side Highway.
Hours: Friday March 4, 11am – 8pm, Saturday March 5, 11am – 8pm, Sunday March 6, 12 – 4pm
► The Dependent
What: One night only, pop-up style art fair featuring independent curatorial projects and spaces, like collaborative poster project 2-UP and Greenpoint storefront Cleopatra's as well as downtown galleries like Canada and Audio Visual Arts. Judging from the list of participants alone, I'm guessing that this is going to be really good.

Hours: Friday, March 4, 4-9pm
► Green Screen Dreams at the Big Screen Project
What: The Big Screen, a gigantic outdoor LED screen, hosts a video program curated by Nat Trotman, associate curator at the Guggenheim Museum. Titled Green Screen Dreams, the program "gathers videos made in the mid-1980s using then-groundbreaking video processing technology, together with recent works by younger artists who have been inspired by that moment."
Location: Public Plaza behind the Eventi Hotel, 6th Avenue b/w 29th and 30th
Hours: March 1-6th, The Big Screen Project operates from 7am-10:30pm daily, so check site for the exact schedule of Green Screen Dreams.
► Artprojx Cinema
What: Free screenings all week of artists' films and videos, in association with the Armory Show and Volta NY. Full program here. EAI's segment looks promising, with work by Kristin Lucas, Martha Rosler, Jaime Davidovich, Takeshi Murata, Cynthia Maughan, and Andrew Lampert.
Location: The SVA Theatre, 333 West 23rd Street (between 8th & 9th Avenues)
Hours: 10-Midnight everyday, check the program for details.
► Volta NY
What: Contemporary art fair with a fairly diverse selection of galleries. Daniel Rozin's works will be up at bitforms gallery, and Oakland's Johansson Projects organized a special performance project by Jennifer and Kevin McCoy, where actors, unfamiliar with the artworks on display, will lead improvised tours of the fair as if the art was their own. Also, critic Ed Halter will lead a conversation with legendary filmmaker George Kuchar on Sunday from 3-4pm at the Club 7W Talks Lounge on the 7th floor. Kuchar's films are being screened at Artprojx Cinema.
Location: 7W -- 7 West 34th Street between 5th and 6th Avenue / 11th floor
Hours: Friday 4th - Sunday 6th, March, 2011, 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.
► The Armory Show
What: Big old art fair, contemporary and modern. This year, they're featuring a special Latin America focus, which should be interesting. The Armory Show has also ventured outside with The Armory Arts Week, partnering with galleries, museums and non-profit arts organizations all over the city for a number of public programs. Check the Armory Arts Week site for full details.
Location: Piers 92 & 94 are located on Manhattan's far West side on the Hudson River (Twelfth Avenue) at 55th Street in the Passenger Ship Terminal complex.
