OPENING: Dec 12th, 7-9pm @ the Diesel Denim Gallery, 68 Greene St. (betw Spring and Broome) Soho, NY, NY
The exhibition is open daily Dec 12th 2007 to Jan 30th 2008.
Diesel New Art, DNA, begun as an experiment to find, connect and exhibit up-and-coming contemporary artists.
Five years on, it’s become a worldwide movement as an international art competition that offers new artists the opportunity to showcase and compete with works in the categories Action, Digital, Draw and Photo.
Few prizes given in the art world are for young and un-established artists, and in that sense DNA is considered as rather exceptional. It constitutes a barometer of current trends among the new generation of artists, combined with a 15.000 USD scholarship to simplify their first steps into the practical world of artistic creation.
During spring and early summer each year, diesel-new-art.com is open for submissions in all kinds of formats and conceptual variations from all over the world. From this a shortlist of 40 honorable mentions, four finalists, and one overall winner, are selected. To guarantee high artistic integrity in the selection of winners, a notable Jury is appointed every year.
Juries have been comprised of a mix of leading and respected artists, collectors, designers, musicians, journalists, and curators that share our passion for bringing a broad and interesting mix of concepts and opinions into the selection process. The DNA*07 Jury consists of Amy Smith-Stewart, gallerist and curator, New York; David Elliott, Director Istanbul Modern, Turkey; Penny Martin, Editor of SHOWstudio, London; and Wilbert Das, Diesel's long-standing Creative Director.
