An Evening with Photographer Judith Joy Ross
Don’t miss this rare opportunity to hear Judith Joy Ross speak. Known for her soulful, engaging portraits, Ross’s work has spanned over two decades, focusing on children, teenagers, visitors to the Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial, members of the U.S. Congress, and soldiers waiting to be shipped off to war. Working with an 8x10 view camera, her portraits are uncompromising, yet deeply compelling and intimate. Described by the New York Times as possessing an "uncommon emotional gravity," they are also packed with a sense of humor, grounded in an astute attentiveness and belief in individuality. Ross’s work has been exhibited and collected internationally, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Monographs include: Judith Joy Ross: Contemporaries/A Photography Series and Portraits of the Hazleton Public Schools. Refreshments will be served.
