INDEX Art Center, one of Newark, New Jersey’s well established contemporary art spaces is holding an exhibition of video and new media and invites the
participation of emerging and established artists for an April 2, 2011 show. Visual artists included in the show will receive a week-long exhibition of their work from April 2-8.
About “Video Village: New Media Expeditions”
INDEX Art Center is pleased to present "Video Village," a group exhibition and fundraiser for Friends of African Village Libraries (FAVL) exploring experimental forms of ethnographic travelogue and highlighting new outlets for mental conceptions of foreign space and place. Comprised of video and new media installation works, these artists skirt the constraints of traditional channels of documentation. The works acknowledge the many mediations between physical travel and personal depiction, manipulating the ability of medium to become message and creating a more abstract and subjective account of the cultural landscapes they have traversed.
