PEEPSHOW 2011: It’s Complicated
OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS & PERFORMERS
Deadline for Submissions: Friday, January 7th, 2011 (in-hand, not postmark)

PEEPSHOW 2011: It’s Complicated is the fourth edition of Squeaky Wheel’s high-energy fundraising art party and extravaganza, to be held at the DNIPRO Ukrainian Center on Saturday, February 26th, 2011. The event boasts a wide array of entertainment, from curated artist installations, videos, and performances to a fancy art auction and the opportunity to participate in an evening-long performance of fun!

Artists of all kinds (media, installation, sculpture, performance) are invited to interpret this year’s theme of It’s Complicated - an often-apologetic preface when entering hearty deliberations about world politics, globalization or economic policies; a notorious description for defending the inherently complex dynamics of personal relationships, gender, or sexuality; and sometimes the dreaded top notch of a difficulty rating system for various “how-to’s” in the realm of vegan cooking, furniture assembly, or home-improvement.

It’s Complicated refers to a dense equation of questions, parameters, or answers that yield a deafening blank stare when TMI (Too Much Information!) has been revealed. Whether it’s the way that slick-looking minimalist masterpiece runs from a tangled, incomprehensible mess of hidden wires or the reason your lover won’t let you hold their hand in public, we understand - It’s Complicated!

To submit a proposal:
Deadline for proposals in-hand is January 7th, 2011 (not a postmark deadline). Selected participants will be notified on January 11, 2011. Artists will be able to install during the week of show and all works must be completely removed by 4pm on Sunday, February 27th. There is a modest artist honararium for selected works. Travel must be arranged by the artist - however, once you get here, we can provide a really nice host to house you. If you are selected and choose to come out, we are most positive you will have a really fun time!!!

It is preferred to receive online proposals (sent to office@squeaky.org with PEEPSHOW submission in subject header), but we can also accept clearly labeled submissions on CD/DVD/mini-DV, sent to: Squeaky Wheel, 712 Main St, Buffalo, NY 14202 (ATTN: PEEPSHOW 2011).
