Subvertisements

  • Deadline:
    Nov. 13, 2010, midnight
  • Location:
    GB

American artist Deena DeNaro and DdB Media are curating a short programme of Subvertisements and Culture-Jamming Films to be shown during the Long Night of the Liverpool Biennial on 18th November, 2010.

Culture jamming entails transforming mass media to produce ironic or satirical commentary about itself, using the original medium's communication method. Many culture jams are simply aimed at exposing questionable political assumptions behind commercial culture so that people can momentarily consider the branded environment in which they live.

Likewise, a well-produced subvertisement mimics the look and feel of the targeted advertisement or message, promoting the classic 'double-take' as viewers suddenly realize they have been duped.

We are looking for images or short films under 3 minutes that attempt to disrupt or subvert mainstream cultural institutions including corporate advertising.

The films or art will be projected on buildings and facades around Liverpool during the Long Night events scheduled for the Liverpool Biennial on 18th November. We will “video tag” at least 7 high-profile locations during the night running our subvertisement programme on a short loop, showing each piece at least 5 times at each location.

Deadline: Films, images and slides should be submitted no later than 17:00 GMT on 13th November, 2010.

Submission: File sizes should be between 10-15MB in the following formats .mov, .jpg and .tiff.

Entry Fee: In order to fund these mobile projections, we are asking for a £10 per entry per submission.
