New York City-Independent Media Center Presents:
+++ FREEDOM CINEMA: G8, Genoa, & Beyond +++
The newest video production and media benefit from NYC's only all
open-source, all DIY, all independent chapter of the grassroots global
indymedia network.
As this year's G8 Summit kicks off in a remote ski resort in Ottowa, June
26-27, protests of the policies and practices of the world's 8 most powerful
nations will be happening in Ottowa, New York, and worldwide. In solidarity,
the IMC & Freedom Cinema will premiere two powerful new films about last
year's G8 protests in Genoa.
Featuring:
* GENOA RED ZONE (67 min)
A documentary of the massive, popular G8 protests in Genoa, 2001, showing
how historic these events were - for the 300,000 they drew from across
Europe
and the world; for the creative organizing and indymedia response they
inspired; and for the unprecedented police repression they received, leading
to the storming of the Genoa-IMC, the brutal assault on journalists and
peaceful activists, and the murder of one protester, Carlo Giuliani. Video
culminates in commemoration of Carlo 6 monthes later, with analysis from
activists, lawyers, journalists, and Antonio Negri.
The Italian, Ireland, and UK Indymedia's have been putting this film
together
over the last 6 monthes, using footage of hundreds of video activists.
* SuperVideo! (30 min; co-production of Italian Indymedia & Video Candida)
A superhero armed with super video camera takes on the G8 superpowers in the
streets of Genoa!
* Italian and NY activists who were in Genoa on hand after films for open
discussion.
———
Refreshments will be served. Doors open 7:30p, screening: 8pm. $5-10
