Jushi/ZSound Collect will perform the music of jazz composers Rale Micic,
Geoffrey Loomis, Richard Tabnik,
Connie Crothers, Dave Weiss, Jushi, and Sadik Hakim. The Ensemble will
consist of Steve Hall on tenor and
soprano sax, Isao Suzuki on baritone sax, Richard Tabnik on alto, Atiba on
flute, David Brahinsky on trumpet,
Ben Cliness on drums, Jushi on contra bass, and Alaiye Agemo, Ifa, Keiko
Suzuki vocalists.
Jushi(aka)June Segal native New Yorker, popular performance
artist-poet-choreographer-bassist, is the founding
musical director of the newly formed ZSound Collect (Jan. 2002). The main
purpose is to provide a lab for jazz
composers to hear their musical scores, written for six to 12 instruments,
developed and played. Jushi will take
this to the next step and present some of these winter projects to the
public in concert this summer. Jushi has
performed as dancer and/or bassist internationally including: The
International Dance Festival, Eleo Pomare
Dance Co., Madrid, Valencia Spain; The African Festival, Tokyo Japan; MOBI
Jazz Festival, Prospect Park,
Brooklyn; World Trade Center Outdoor Festival. She is thefirst female to
play in the Sun Ra Arkestra . Jushi
teaches music dance, story telling and introduction to the Japanese
language.
