MATA INTERVAL CONCERT SERIES, SEASON 4
Concert Production Opportunities for Guest Curators
::Deadline: Monday, June 7th, 2010::
::Email proposals to interval@matafestival.org::
MATA, Inc., the Brooklyn-based young composer advocacy and presenting
organization, is accepting proposals from curators for its 2010-11
Interval Series. In collaboration with its Directors, these curators
will program and produce an event on MATA's Interval series at
Brooklyn venue Issue Project Room.
The Interval Series provides real-world experience in curating,
distinguishing Interval as the only concert series in New York
designed and executed wholly by emerging artists. The mission for the
Interval series is to present innovative, smaller-scale work by young
and emerging composers and performers (age 40 or under).
For the 2010-2011 season (No.4), proposals should focus on works for
electronic/digital media and/or small acoustic ensembles of up to five
players that are conceived in collaboration with other art fields— for
example, visual, film, dance, fashion, cuisine, or design. Note that
curators are welcome to program and perform their own work.
Participants will be required to:
•Program a concert of works by composers under 40 for MATA’s Interval
series.
•Create a comprehensive budget for artist fees not to exceed $1500.
(production costs and technical staff fees are budgeted separately by
MATA.)
•Coordinate schedules and other logistics with the venue,
participating composers, performing artists, and technical staff.
•Create various public relations activities, including writing press
release copy, Interval blogs, collecting media content from artists,
writing personal emails to select members of the press corps,
executing HTML email blasts, and collecting press placements after the
event is completed. Other innovative ideas welcome. Technical
assistance will be provided when necessary, and MATA's Directors are
available throughout the process.
Interval Season 4 will consist of three performances tentatively
scheduled for October 28th, January 13th, and March 10th. We request
that applicants check these dates with artists before submitting.
Please visit issueprojectroom.org for more information on the venue’s
facilities.
Funding is not available for travel or housing. While we encourage the
presentation of new works, MATA does not support commissions for the
Interval series at this time. Interval is focused on pre-existing
works that deserve to be heard.
Proposals should be emailed to interval@matafestival.org, and should
include the following attachments in PDF format:
1) Applicant's Resumé (3 page maximum) [please note applicants must be
under age 40 at time of application]
2) Proposal Outline
• A paragraph describing the curatorial concept and/or theme
• A list of potential artists, including short bios, links to web
resources, and any available sound clips.
• A paragraph describing potential blog post topics, podcast content,
and other ways of publicizing and contextualizing your event.
WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO CONTACT US WITH ANY QUESTIONS (at
