The DIY Kenya commission is a new residency opportunity developed by bloc for technologists, creatives and collectives based in Wales to travel to rural Kenya. The aim of the residency is to develop innovative ideas, products, events, interventions or artworks in response to everyday African concerns.
What: A commission for a creative practitioner/s (2 people max) from Wales to be in residence in rural Kenya and develop an innovative project during a three-week period.
When: 18 July- 10 August, 2010
Where: Phase 1: 20 July - 3 August. Practitioners will be based at the Kwale Homeopathic College and Health Center - www.4kenia.nl
Phase 2: 4-10 August. Practitioners will be based in Nairobi and participating at Maker Faire Africa 2010 - www.makerfaireafrica.com
Please note that we are not currently able to offer the successful applicant a fee. However, all travel, accommodation and medical costs will be covered, along with a small materials budget. We will also provide comprehensive support during the duration of the residency.
