Southern Exposure is proud to announce a new opportunity for local, national and international artists to develop and present a new public art project in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2011 and 2012. With the support of The Graue Family Foundation, Southern Exposure is offering an annual $15,000 award to commission a public art project in the Bay Area. Through an open call for entries in 2010, and again in 2011, SoEx will select one project each year to commission and present to the public the following year.
The Graue Award is an initiative of SoEx Off-Site, a program of Southern Exposure's founded in 2006 that seeks to commission and present new public work by emerging artists that intervenes and interacts in the social and political spheres beyond the space of gallery. SoEx supports and encourages these practices as few venues support emerging artists working in the public. The artists selected through the program will make a proposal and develop their work in relation the San Francisco Bay Area.
