Call for Work: Bringing the Dome back Home

Please send short videos and films about and/or featuring domes and/or structures inspired by the ideas of Buckminster Fuller.

Genres: experimental, essay film, actuality and short documentary (or excerpts from longer pieces).

Carbondale, IL is the one-time home of visionary architect, engineer and designer Buckminster Fuller. It is also the site of his first dome home, currently undergoing renovation as a public resource. On April 18-22, 2010 a series of events will commemorate and build on his valuable contributions to imagining ways humans can use resources with more efficiency, collaboration and cooperation.

We are looking for pieces that illustrate, make aesthetic, embroider, literalize, narrate, politicize and otherwise document and map the popular and populist movement of the geodesic dome structure as a cheap DIY provisional (or permanent) shelter from its first home in Carbondale, Illinois.

The geodesic dome structures peppering our landscape today are well known: the Superdome, the Road-Salt-Dome, the Climbing-Jungle-Gym-Dome and the Rest-Area-Redwood-Prefab Dome.

For this special event to take place in Carbondale Illinois on April 20, we want the dome stories hiding in the woods; the non-commercial one of a kind domes, the hand-built-from-trash or cardboard domes, the politically provisional domes, the failed experiments with leaks and all, stories about sound, movements, utopianism, community and experiments with behavior and space. We are looking for films about not only the many home domes - but also the adaptations, and other experiments—in housing but also research in many fields- including cartography, virus modeling, ecological philosophies and utopian experiments in living that have followed Fuller over the past 40+ years.

Short notice call! Please send to arrive April 13, 2010

We are looking for work less than 20 minutes in length.

Formats: DVD, MiniDV (SD), Quicktime (high resolution), Super8 and 16mm. All submissions will be returned.

Longer pieces can be accepted if there is an appropriate excerpt to screen.

Submission Deadline (received by): April 13, 2010

Include with your submission a brief written description of the work, and a short filmmaker bio.
