Artists using new media and photography are invited to submit a one-to-two minute video documenting your artwork for possible publication in Reframing Photography, a book being published by Routledge, UK. Imagine yourself describing one of your artworks to a friend. In one to two minutes, describe what is most important to relay about what you made and why (questions/ideas/context) and how (processes and materials) you made it. Present this in a one-to-two minute video in which you show and discuss the work. The artwork should be photographic in nature, though the term “photographic” may be broadly defined (i.e., shadow puppetry, projection, fine prints, installation with new media …).
Accepted videos will be featured on the Routledge Reframing Photography website and may be promoted in the print book, which is a broad and inclusive rethinking of photography that approaches the medium across time periods, across traditional themes, and through varied materials.
Initial video submissions should be compressed QuickTime (.mov) files that may be sent through email. If accepted, we will need an uncompressed, higher resolution file (may be sent electronically or on DVD). Videos must show work in detail and have clear audio. Send submissions to rmodrak@umich.edu. Deadline: April 2, 2010.
