Profile

The BA Media & Art is successfully positioned on the international stage. It explores and promotes a comprehensive range of pathways to creative media practice in Switzerland and beyond.

The course develops author skills for the arts and media. It aims to provide a solid foundation for future artists and media authors. BA Media & Art students pursue their specializations (Fine Arts, Photography, Media Arts, Theory) in the first three semesters before increasingly combining their specializations towards course completion.

The BA Media & Art, like all ZHdK Department of Art & Media courses, rests upon three guiding principles:
-promoting individual and collective authorship (as artists or media authors)
- fostering original work in various media (among others, photography, video,
performance, computer/network, painting, language, film)
- conceiving art as method and practice

On their way to individual or collective authorship, BA Media & Arts students learn to:

develop and pursue their own themes and interests
situate these within contemporary social issues and
produce convincing media and art work.

The course calls for, and nurtures, self-motivated productivity characterized by curiosity, risk propensity, and an uncompromising attitude towards one’s own themes and interests as well as the idiosyncrasies of particular media. Students are free to decide whether they will become artists, enter business and industry as media authors, establish their own agencies, or pursue a their own hybrid positioning as author.

With a BA in Media & Art or any other Bachelor degree one can enter the Master of Fines Arts at ZHdK which aims at the development of complex authorship and critical expertise.
