The 3rd 01SJ Biennial will take place September 16-19, 2010 in San Jose, CA. The theme of the Biennial is Build Your Own World. For approximately ten days prior to the Biennial, from approximately September 4-15, ZER01 is inviting independent artists, designers, architects, engineers, programmers, and corporate and academic research programs to publicly work in San Jose’s 80,000 square foot “South Hall” to create projects for exhibition, performance, provocation, and interaction. This innovative platform is titled Out of the Garage, Into the World and will build on the dynamic histories of garage hacking and citizen science to imagine not just what’s next but to ensure that what’s next matters.

ZER01 is soliciting proposals from California-based artists and artist teams for a free, artist-led public workshop to take place within Out of the Garage, Into the World during the 2010 San Jose Biennial. There is a $5,000 commissioning fee to cover production, materials, travel, and lodging.
