MIRROR/WINDOW

We are seeking works to screen in the inaugural installment of a curated video art salon program. This program will take place at LOUIS V. E.S.P., a new exhibition space located in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY and set to begin full programming in 2010: http://www.louisvesp.blogspot.com/ ; http://zenithland.com/home.html (sister organization).

Taking an egalitarian approach to curating, we hope to create a forum to showcase a vast array of local and international video artists by organizing salons which merge established artists with the emerging and the lauded with the unrecognized. Each salon will be oriented around a specific theme, established artist or influential artwork.

Inspired by artists such as Dan Graham and Vito Acconci, our first salon, MIRROR/WINDOW, will focus on works that meditate on the theme of space and architecture. We seek works that investigate the relationship between public and private spheres, the body within space, and the social codes embedded in architecture.

To submit a video work please send the following:

- Link to the video (please no more than 10 minutes)
- A brief paragraph describing the work and how it relates to the above theme
- Bio/CV

Please send materials to Sodhi.Woodward@gmail.com. There is no submission fee. The deadline for submission is January 3, 2010.

Preeti Sodhi and James Woodward are independent curators interested in artistic works that relates to the city, environment, space and the body. We are an artist and urban planner inspired by contemporary art, architecture and the built environment. Focusing on issues of identity, interaction and perception, Sodhi and Woodward’s mission is grounded in the concept of community; we aim to provide a forum for dialogue between artists and the public through exhibitions, performance and discussion.
