The Film & Digital Media Department at the University of California, Santa Cruz, invites applications for Assistant Professor (tenure track) or Associate Professor (tenured) in critical studies. We are seeking a hybrid artist/scholar or a scholar who works in the area of experimental practices across fiction and non-fiction. A secondary specialty in any of the following areas would be particularly desirable: histories of technology, media cultures and/or the avant-garde, especially as they relate to the genealogy of cinema to digital; global or transnational media; or studies of race.
Our curriculum addresses the history, theory and production of film, television, video and digital media across a range of global and historical contexts. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching and service.
Minimum Qualifications: For appointment at Assistant Professor level: a Ph.D. in relevant field of study; demonstrated potential as a researcher/scholar; commitment to and talent for teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels; a potential for undertaking administrative service required. For appointment at Associate Professor level: a Ph.D. in relevant field of study; demonstrated excellence as a researcher/scholar; demonstrated commitment to and talent for teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels; ability to undertake administrative service.
