[size=25]Digital Ritual curated by the Curatorial Studio[/size]

Ritual and technology are woven into the fabric of daily life. Digital Ritual seeks work that embodies the adaptation of everyday rituals to evolving technologies. This exhibit will be hosted by the Open Concept Gallery during the 2009 SMart Festival in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

SMart Festival is an annual series of events that feature innovative multimedia art works by international, national, and local artists.

The Open Concept Gallery was built originally to serve as a Masonic Temple. Much of the galleries architecture welcomes site specific works. Notable (architectural) features include an arched entry way, large balcony, high vaulted ceiling with a dome at its center, a small corner stairway that ends abruptly into a wall, a three-quarter-sized door with a small attached balcony, and other unique architectural features.


[size=15]Submission Guidelines[/size]

Artists from the U.S. and abroad are invited to submit work that incorporates technology-based media (and/or) performance for Digital Ritual. Curatorial Studio can offer technical support with a limited supply of digital projectors, screens, laptops, tv monitors, dvd players, speakers, slide projectors and overhead projectors.

Documentation of work:

• 3 -5 images at least 800 x 600 pixels
• and/or videos or representative video sample not exceeding 10 minutes.
• File attachments or web links are also acceptable.

• Short statement about the submitted work. Please include artist name(s), title, media, dimensions, year, and technology/ installation needs

• Proposals are welcome. Please submit documentation of related/recent projects, rendering for your proposal, and a statement following the above guidelines.

There is no entry fee.
Shipping costs will be the responsibility of the artists.

All submissions due Wednesday, February 23 at noon.
Exhibit runs April 1st - April 7th

Digital Ritual is curated by the members of Curatorial Studio, a class that explores the presentational and critical practice and the theoretical discourse specific to such practice within a studio context. This involves the curation (study and creation of visual presentations) in exhibitions or projects.
