In painting, like most contemporary art media, one can find a great variety of techniques being practiced, images being created, and content being discussed. We can, however, identify specific major currents that resonate with our present conditions. With this in mind LAL seeks work that addresses any or all of the following phenomena: decoration density, fantastic figuration, and architectural anomie.

Decoration Density: Contemporary painting practice has redeveloped earlier ideas of abstraction into dense ornamentation using layered, riotous shapes and colors.

Fantastic Figuration: Contemporary painting practice has reengaged the figure to create a new form that is largely extraordinary in comparison to everyday experience.

Architectural Anomie: Contemporary painting practice has transformed the grandeur of nature into the introspection of interior spaces.

Appropriate work for Paintpresent may engage a wide range of media in its investigation of these themes.
