CALL FOR ENTRIES Darwin’s Bicentennial: Art, Science and the Origin of Species
Celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin and the 150th anniversary of the
publication of The Origin of Species, through an exhibition to be shown at two sites this autumn
2008.
The Origin of Species fundamentally changed the way we view our selves and our world.
Charles Darwin’s research, methodology, queries, insights and theories, and his courageous
humility in presenting controversial ideas, dynamically advanced scientific knowledge, altered
cultural identity, and continues as a cornerstone for significant discoveries being made today in
modern science.
Application Deadline: Received by September 4th
Artists whose work originates from or has direct links with Darwinian theories— including (but
not limited to) natural selection, history or science, chance, adaptation, modification,
observational research, geological succession, hybridism—are encouraged to submit up to
three works for possible selection.
Submission formats: 2-D, 3-D, and Video. 2-D and 3-D artists can submit up to 6 images in JPG
format (no power point presentations) on a CD or DVD. Video artists can submit up to 3 videos,
each under 10 minutes long, on a CD or DVD-ROM as high quality Quicktime movies. Each
image/video file should be labeled with the artist’s last name and numbered 1- 6 (i.e. Smith1).
Include in your submission a numbered image/video list that corresponds to the image/video file
numbers and includes titles, dimensions, media, and year for each piece (or titles, running times,
and year for video).
An artist’s statement explaining how your work relates to Darwin must be submitted, (300 words
maximum.) Include your name, email address, and daytime phone number. Send application

Artists will be contacted by September 8th. Please note: All artists will be considered regardless
of location, however, artists are responsible for delivery and pickup (or shipping) of their work.
Drop off: September 19th, 12-3pm. Pickup: December 8th, 9-5pm

Reception: Monday, September 29th, 4-6pm
