Technical Instructor in 3D Fabrication

Bennington College seeks a Technical Instructor in 3D Fabrication to provide support for the Visual Arts Program across several visual arts disciplines, including (but not limited to) architecture, sculpture, digital arts, ceramics and animation. This position will primarily be overseen by faculty in architecture and sculpture. Responsibilities include routine maintenance and scheduling for fabrication equipment, managing student monitors for these facilities, teaching the safe and responsible use of fabrication equipment and providing technical assistance to students, leading class demonstrations and providing occasional class support (scheduled in advance) as requested by faculty, working with the IT staff to manage fabrication-related computers and software. In addition, the Technical Instructor teaches two 2 credit technique-oriented courses in Visual Arts during each academic year, and may be asked to offer a co-requisite technology course. This is a full-time, 40 weeks/year appointment.
This position is a good fit for a self-motivated individual interested in teaching and working with a diverse array of fabrication software and equipment. A high regard for personal and shop safety is required, as is an interest in contemporary art and design practices.
This position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, willingness and ability to work across disciplines with a diverse body of students and faculty, and a high level of proficiency in Rhinoceros 3D, G-code, laser cutting, CNC milling, and 3D printing.
Teaching experience is desirable as the person in this position will be expected to teach an introductory course annually in 3D modeling and laser cutting. A portfolio demonstrating technical skill and creative sensitivity is expected.
Equipment under the purview of this position includes a Delta WASP 40100 Ceramic 3D Printer; Ultimaker 3D printers; Universal ULS 60 Laser Cutter; Boss Laser Cutter; and Shopbot Alpha CNC Router.
This position will begin in late August or early September 2022 and requires successful completion and acceptable results of a background check.
