Rah Eleh, Celestial Throne, Personal Structure Venice Biennale

  • Location:
    Palazzo Mora, Strada Nova, 3659, 30121 Venezia, Italy Preview: April 21–22, 2022 Exhibition: April 23 – November 27, 2022

Making its world debut in the biennale, Celestial Throne is a two-channel experimental video featuring a series of characters that the artist has performed over several years. These carefully conceived personas deconstruct ethnic and gender stereotypes. While parodying the tropes endemic to a classic game show, Rah Eleh's characterizations are a pastiche of racialized stereotypes, while the videos are a pointed critique of far-right and internet extremism. The clues in the game show expose coded internet dialect, iconography, and aesthetics used by these groups to promote the movement’s political ideologies.

The European Cultural Centre (ECC) is proud to announce that the sixth edition of Personal Structures, the biennial contemporary art exhibition that invites artists and creative minds from across the world, will open in Venice, Italy, from the 23rd of April to the 27th of November, 2022, with press previews and opening events on the 21st and 22nd of April in all ECC locations
