FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Art Department invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Animation within the Electronic Design and Multimedia (EDM) program of the Art Department. The candidate should be prepared to teach courses to BA Digital Design and BFA EDM students in animation principles, capstone projects, and special topics (diverse areas of 2D, 3D, stop-motion, or experimental animation), plus a possible graduate course in the Art Department’s Digital & Interdisciplinary Art Practice (DIAP) MFA program.

Applicant’s animation emphasis can be in character development, storytelling, motion graphics, kinetic typography, data visualization, or digital compositing. Candidates should strike a balance between concept and technical craft.

The Electronic Design and Multimedia program resides within the Art Department at The City College of New York. As such, faculty members are expected to perform research, participate in departmental and college-wide committees, service, and leadership. Position includes shared responsibility for Electronic Design and Multimedia program administration and student advising (including advising on BFA students’ capstone thesis).

QUALIFICATIONS
A Masters in Fine Arts in Animation, Visual Narrative, Motion Arts, Experimental Animation or a related area of animation practice is required.

Two years of professional working experience in animation or a closely related field and at least one year of full-time teaching experience at the university level or equivalent is also required. The candidate must maintain an outstanding creative portfolio with evidence of ongoing creative research, including an active studio and professional practice. The candidate must have superb organizational and administrative skills, and must be Mac OS and Adobe Creative Cloud-savvy, with extensive knowledge in software relevant to the animation field. The candidate must also be conversant in animation history and current directions in animation as it applies to contemporary art and professional practice.

Success in obtaining funding and student opportunities through grant applications or industry partnerships is extremely desirable.
