The Department of Technology, Culture, and Society at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering invites applications for a full time, 1-year, non-renewable faculty position in Integrated Design & Media, with a start date of September 1, 2022.

We seek candidates with an active, hands-on art or design practice whose work engages with the ethical and political dimensions of art and design or has a significant investment in activism through art and design, or community involvement. This position will complement and strengthen our commitment to delivering a robust curriculum that is inclusive of diverse and critical perspectives, applications, and sites in digital art and design practice.

The program welcomes candidates with a diverse or hybrid background (e.g. degrees in engineering and arts, humanities, or design) and whose practice includes one or more of the following themes:

* Ecological and environmental activism
* Multispecies design
* Issues of gender, race, labor and emerging technologies
* Data democracy, sovereignty, governance, and justice
* A.I. through the lens of the above themes

We strongly encourage candidates whose work engages with or has had a demonstrable impact on diverse communities to apply.

The successful candidate should be an excellent teacher with a strong commitment to student mentorship, prepared to teach undergraduates and Master’s students. Teaching requirements include core courses for the program as well as special topics courses within the candidate’s area of expertise. Candidates can expect a 2/2 teaching load with some additional service. The Integrated Design & Media program offers BS and MS degrees in Integrated Design & Media.

Candidates must have a Master’s degree (terminal degree preferred) in digital media, design, or related fields (art, design, STS, engineering...) and an outstanding record of social impact through their work in industry, creative practice, or community-centered practice.

The Integrated Design & Media (IDM) program in the Tandon School of Engineering is a place that fosters creative practice, design research and multidisciplinary experimentation with emerging media technologies. Situated on NYU’s Brooklyn campus and with access to a world-class facility at 370 Jay Street, IDM nurtures a convergence of expertise through experimental creative practice, technical acumen, and rigorous process.
