The School of Art & Design at Marshall University seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of New Media / Video Production, beginning August 2022. The successful candidate will teach three undergraduate courses per semester in a variety of areas. Responsibilities will also include teaching design principles and Adobe CC in the Foundations area, mentoring students in research and creative activity, supporting student design internships, area management, and maintaining scholarly/creative design research. Additional related duties include academic advising, curriculum development, and service to the institution and community. The School of Art & Design is housed in two separate facilities dedicated to Art Education, Art History, Ceramics, Fibers, Foundations, Graphic Design, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, and Sculpture. Faculty teaching in all disciplines are committed to providing students with a rigorous, interdisciplinary curriculum that encourages both conceptual and aesthetic innovation. Specifically, this position uniquely straddles the School of Art & Design art program and the College of Arts and Media video production program. Graphic Design and Video Production represent our largest emphasis areas.

Applicants must have an MFA or equivalent degree in New Media, Visual Communication, Graphic Design, or a related field by the time of appointment. Alternatively, applicants who have an MA with three or more years of relevant industry work experience are eligible to apply. The qualified candidate will be an energetic educator and collaborator and will demonstrate effective communication and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of traditional design principles and theory, along with contemporary issues/emerging platforms in visual communication is required.

Must be able to perform all essential job duties as outlined in the job description.

The preferred candidate will have college-level teaching experience in a rigorous studio art and design environment and/or a record of client-based, industry experience. Preferred applicants should also be knowledgeable of contemporary trends in digital media, criticism and theory. In addition, familiarity and interest, 3D design/rendering, motion graphics (Adobe After Effects), experimental film, and an interest in community-based design initiatives and commitment to student recruitment/retention are desired.
