Apply now for Headlands Center for the Arts 2021-22 Designer in Residence program—an opportunity for a Bay Area graphic designer to build their portfolio through a long-term engagement with Headlands. The Designer in Residence (DIR) program supports practitioners working at the leading edges of their field: individuals who are interested in pushing boundaries and exploring the possibilities of their medium. The DIR sets the tone for a year’s worth of external communications, designing the majority of Headlands’ graphic collateral and developing a unique body of original work while mobilizing the Headlands’ pre-existing visual identity in new ways.

The DIR is paid a $9000 stipend dispersed over the award period, and there is an option for an addition $1000 to support an independent project. The DIR works with Headlands on a predetermined number of key projects, and is not responsible for the entirety of our design needs.
