Technical Instructor in Fabrication and Digital Art - Bennington College

Bennington College seeks a Technical Instructor in Fabrication and Digital Art for a full time, 40 weeks per year appointment to provide support for the Visual Arts Program across several visual arts disciplines, including (but not limited to) architecture, sculpture, digital arts, ceramics and animation. Responsibilities include provision of technical assistance to students, leading class demonstrations, provision of occasional class support as requested by faculty, provision of support for Usdan Gallery shows, working with the IT staff to manage computing facilities and color plotters, routine maintenance and scheduling for fabrication equipment and computing facilities, managing student monitors for these facilities, and ensuring safe and responsible use of all equipment. In addition, the Technical Instructor teaches two 2 credit technique-oriented courses in Visual Arts during each academic year, and may be asked to co-teach a course with a faculty member or offer a co-requisite technology course.This role is ideal for a self-motivated individual interested in teaching and working with a diverse array of fabrication software and equipment.

This position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a Bachelor’s degree in architecture, design, or a related field, willingness and ability to work across disciplines with a diverse body of students and faculty, and a high level of proficiency in Rhinoceros 3D, Adobe Creative Suite, laser cutting, CNC routing, and 3D printing. A graduate degree, teaching experience, and a working knowledge of G-code, HTML, CSS and JavaScript are desirable but not required. A portfolio demonstrating technical skill and creative sensitivity is expected. Equipment under the purview of this position includes a Delta WASP 40100 Ceramic 3D Printer; Ultimaker 3D printers; Universal ULS 60 Laser Cutter; Boss Laser Cutter; Shopbot Alpha CNC Router, and color plotters. A high regard for personal and shop safety is required, as is an interest in contemporary art and design practices.

This position will begin in late August 2020 and requires successful completion and acceptable results of a background check.
