The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Department of Visual and Media Arts at Grand Valley State University (GVSU) seek an artist for the Stuart and Barbara Padnos Distinguished Artist-in-Residence position. Candidates for the position must have a record of: distinguished professional achievement as a studio artist, demonstration of effective mentor-ship of students, and outstanding teaching performance and effectiveness with students beyond the high school level. A terminal degree in studio art or substantial experience in at least one of these studio areas is required: ceramics, drawing, metals/jewelry, painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography, and new media. This is a full-time two-semester position, with possible annual renewals up to three years. The appointment will begin in August 2020. The Padnos Distinguished Artist-in-Residence responsibilities will include: teaching assignment equivalent to one course per semester, participation in group and individual critiques, and mentoring for a broad range of students. A high level of creative activity and professional visibility is expected. Projects that involve the local community as well as the student population are encouraged but not required.
