Description

The Department of Technology, Culture, and Society at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering invites applications for a full time, non-tenured, renewable faculty position in Integrated Digital Media, at the rank of Industry Assistant Professor, with a start date of September 1, 2020.

We seek candidates for this position in all areas of digital media practice - including art, design, and games - with a preference for research and teaching interests in one or more of the following areas of focus: video / digital photography / experimental filmmaking, web design, game design, or real-time live performance. The successful candidate should be an excellent teacher with a strong commitment to student mentorship and experience in all levels of teaching, from introductory undergraduates to graduate students. Candidates must have a terminal degree in digital media or a related field and an outstanding record of artistic practice, technical innovation, and/or scholarship in their areas of focus. Candidates with a hybrid academic background (e.g., degrees in engineering and arts, humanities, or design), and whose work is concerned with themes of advocacy / activism, social / civic engagement, cultural / environmental sustainability, design justice, and/or media equity are especially encouraged to apply.

The Integrated Digital Media (IDM) program in the Tandon School of Engineering is a place that fosters creative practice, design research and multidisciplinary experimentation with emerging media technologies. Situated on NYU’s Brooklyn campus and with access to a world-class facility at the NYU 370 Jay Street, IDM nurtures a convergence of expertise through experimental creative practice, technical acumen, and rigorous process. We utilize technologies to support human values and interdependence, building a field of practice that combines the ethics of an arts practice with the technical rigor of engineering.
