The Department of Technology, Culture, and Society at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering invites applications for a full time, non-tenured, renewable faculty position in Integrated Digital Media, at the rank of Industry Assistant Professor, with a start date of September 1, 2020.

We seek candidates for this position with a disciplinary focus in Visual Design, with an active practice in User Interface and User Experience design. Applicants may work in the above areas in the context in visual design fields (graphic design, print and publishing, typography, web, data visualization), critical design research, service design, game design, information design, persuasive design, or other relevant areas. The successful candidate should have an active, industry facing design practice in addition to being an excellent teacher with a strong commitment to student mentorship and experience in all levels of teaching, with a strong focus on undergraduate education. Candidates must have a Masters degree or higher and an outstanding record of artistic practice, technical innovation, and/or scholarship in their area of focus. Candidates with a hybrid academic background (e.g., degrees in engineering and arts, humanities, or design), and whose work is concerned with themes of advocacy / activism, social / civic engagement, cultural / environmental sustainability, design justice, and/or media equity are especially encouraged to apply.

The Integrated Digital Media (IDM) program in the Tandon School of Engineering is a place that fosters creative practice, design research and multidisciplinary experimentation with emerging media technologies. Situated on NYU’s Brooklyn campus and with access to a world-class facility at the NYU 370 Jay Street, IDM nurtures a convergence of expertise through experimental creative practice, technical acumen, and rigorous process. We utilize technologies to support human values and interdependence, building a field of practice that combines the ethics of an arts practice with the technical rigor of engineering.
