Submissions are now open for The 2020 Film and Video Poetry Symposium.

Poets, filmmakers, media artists, and digital artists are called to submit their work to The 3rd Annual Film and Video Poetry Symposium!

For several days in 2020 this film festival and symposium will screen a large scope of film and video projects developed through the medium of poetry. In addition to these film screenings there will be workshops, special guests, and panels for several days. In conjunction with the film screenings, programmers curate and present a 30 day exhibit comprised of media installations and video art created through the use poetry. The Symposium's 2018 inaugural year oversaw the screening of 80 international films and videos within 4 notable Los Angeles venues and a spectacular month long gallery exhibition. In 2019, FVPS presented selections internationally, screening 30 films, 10 workshops, and 2 live performances in Los Angeles, California, Moscow, Russia and New York City. For both years The Los Angeles Center for Digital Art was the home to our gallery exhibitions.

The 2020 Film and Video Poetry Symposium is accepting poetry films, filmpoems, digital-poetry, poetry video, Cin(E)-Poetry, spoken word films, videopoema, choreopoems, visual poetry, poetronica, and media poetry.

The 2020 Film and Video Poetry Symposium is also accepting experimental film and video work that explores language and/or literature whether it be oral, written, visual, or symbolic. This includes the film essay or cinematic essay, non-narrative work, and the avant-guard. We strongly consider work that challenges traditional and current visual communication methods while continuing to function as a mode for exploring narrative and personal expression. Performance material, virtual reality projects, video mapping, installation proposals, and video art presentations that hybrid or contain strong aspects of poetry are encouraged.

Film and video work that may focus on historically important poets, poems, literary ideas, or events are also encouraged.

There are no restrictions regarding when the film was produced or if the film has premiered regionally or internationally. There are no restrictions on subject matter, theme or topic. There are no running time restrictions.

DEADLINE: May 3, 2020 11:59PM PST
