Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Design Technician for the The Department of Art & Design, Mason Gross School of the Arts. The Design Tech will be a participatory member in the Design Area, working alongside faculty, staff and students to help integrate digital technologies into the curriculum.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Communicates with the director of computer services on specific curricular needs, hardware, software that relates to design practice.
Maintains and operates physical computing materials.
Maintains online servers for student use.
Guides students using digital equipment for gallery installations.
Technically manages and coordinates the online publications of the Design program.
Archives and publishes design student work.
Troubleshoots and organizes demos for various hardware and software.
Advises junior, senior and graduate design students on how to achieve their production goals.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, and computer literacy
• Proficiency with commercially available design software
• Proficiency in online publication, internet and network protocols and HTML/CSS
• Proficiency in print publication processes
• Basic understanding of macOS Server
• Familiarity with open source coding frameworks
• Familiarity with a wide range of digital hardware including prototyping boards and physical interaction systems
