THE AUXILIARY ARE INVITING SUBMISSIONS FOR THEIR ARTIST-IN-RESIDENT PROGRAMME, AUX-AIR 2018. WE ARE LOOKING FOR 4 EMERGING AND EARLY CAREER INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS WORKING IN THE FIELDS OF SONIC ART, PERFORMANCE AND INSTALLATION TO UNDERTAKE A FUNDED, 6 WEEK RESIDENCY AT OUR PROJECT SPACE IN TEESSIDE, NORTHEAST ENGLAND. CHOSEN ARTISTS WILL RECEIVE A STIPEND, PRODUCTION BUDGET AND TRAVEL ALLOWANCE. DURING THEIR RESIDENCY THEY WILL PRESENT AN EXHIBITION/PERFORMANCE AND TALK/WORKSHOP AT THE AUXILIARY’S GALLERY SPACE, NETWORK WITH LOCAL ARTISTS AND ORGANIZATIONS AND BENEFIT FROM CRITICAL FEEDBACK SESSIONS WITH INVITED ARTISTIC MENTORS. SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL ALSO BENEFIT FROM NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES WITH OUR PARTNERS MIDDLESBROUGH INSTITUTE OF MODERN ART, NAVIGATOR NORTH, PLATFORM A AND MIDDLESBROUGH COUNCIL.
THERE IS NO CURATORIAL THEMATIC FOR THIS CALL OUT. HOWEVER PROJECTS THAT ENGAGE WITH THE INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE, PLACE AND IDENTITY OF TEESSIDE WILL BE FAVOURED.

TEESSIDE IS AN AREA WITH A STRONG CULTURAL AND INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE, A DIVERSE MIGRANT POPULATION AND AN ENTHUSIASTIC LOCAL ARTISTIC COMMUNITY. APPLICANTS SHOULD DEMONSTRATE A STRONG PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT THROUGH THE ABOVE ACTIVITIES DURING THEIR STAY.

ARTISTS MUST BE EMERGING, EARLY CAREER INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS. WE TERM ‘INTERNATIONAL’ ARTISTS AS
1. ARTISTS LIVING OUTSIDE THE UK
2. ARTIST LIVING IN THE UK THAT HAVE EXHIBITED ABROAD.
ARTISTS MUST USE THE MEDIUM OF SOUND IN THEIR WORK.
WE DEEM AN 'EXHIBITION' AS ANY ARTISTIC PUBLIC FACING EVENT.
