The Overlook, a multidisciplinary arts space in Chicago, is seeking submissions for our December exhibition, Blanket Statements. Blanket Statements is a show featuring artist’s work printed on blankets - making the often untouchable, touchable. We invite all creative mediums to submit; visual art, text works, composers with visual scores, or any artists that have a printable concept. The themes of submitted works are open, however, in keeping with the mission of The Overlook, we will not accept works that are derogatory to groups or individuals.
We are partnering with curators in L.A., New York, and San Francisco to host pop-up shows and events for the month of December as well. We encourage works from all over the world, so please spread the word!
There is no cost to submit work, but if you decide to participate we are asking for a $40 materials fee to cover the cost of getting the blankets printed. Works will be for sale, and we are striving to sell as many as we can so that we can refund the materials fee plus the majority of the profits back to artists. If you have financial need to cover a portion or all of the materials cost, please indicate that with your submission - we are striving to keep the show inclusive and will do our best to accommodate you. Each city will run their show differently but the Chicago month long exhibition will partner with a local shelter to collect donations throughout.
Artists should submit work in the form of a max 50mb jpeg to blanketstatementsshow@gmail.com. Work will be accepted until November 5th and chosen artists will be notified by November 10th. We welcome multiple submissions, but if accepted only one image will be chosen per artist.
