The Department of Art, University of California, Santa Barbara, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Art, Time-Based Media, beginning July 1, 2018.

We seek a colleague whose creative practice focuses on time-based media with an emphasis in digital video that may overlap with performance, sound-work, and the multiple platforms for exhibition and distribution – projection, installation, mobile, community-centered, interactive, experimental. The ideal candidate will bring broad expertise in discourses of global contemporary art with specialized expertise in experimental video, its relation to film and media arts, knowledge of production; as well as an enthusiasm for teaching the ways, means, and meanings of being an artist today and in the future.

Candidates are expected to have an MFA or an equivalent terminal degree from another country (MA), or extensive experience and publication in the field; with demonstrated excellence in practice, research, and teaching to complement the department’s strengths in art-making and theory (see http://www.arts.ucsb.edu). UC Santa Barbara encourages interdisciplinary studies and there will be opportunities for engaging and contributing to various departments such as Film and Media Studies, Theater and Dance, and the Media Arts and Technology program. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a wide variety of courses ranging from undergraduate studio classes to advanced graduate seminars. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through creative practice, research, teaching and service.
