Chai Thai Pai is a new performance piece by contemporary artist Genco Gulan about identity change.

We are all pre-defined with the identities we are borne into. We are automatically bound to certain cultural groups, religions, nations just because of where we are born, how we dress up and/or accordıng to our gender, skin and colour of our hair. Gulan’s performances in New York, Istanbul, New Castle and in Tel Aviv had been questioning these issues for almost two decades. The title of the piece, Chai Thai Pai, is not related directly with the concept or content, but with the colorfull, diverse neigborhood: Bedford Av.

With his current piece being performed in Williamsburg Brooklyn; Gulan attempts to display his solidarity with our black brothers and sisters, a painters own rage as he redefines himself as an artist in society along with a continual visualisation of alterity. In this piece, Genco Gulan refers to the works of Umay Amay, and will be collaborating live with Piril Gunduz overseas on curatorial basis.
