“I loathe my own face, and I’ve done self-portraits because I’ve had nobody else to do.” -Francis Bacon
Historically, self portraits have been the result of an artist’s resourcefulness and frugality. Rarely would an artist choose to paint themselves over an available model. However, in this digital age, smartphones have refined the art of the self portrait. The world is now more open to, if not obsessed with, artistic self representation. Some may call it narcissism. Regardless of how you feel, this trend is sure to change how, and why, artists represent themselves in their work. Con Artist Collective presents: “Mirror Mirror”. An exhibition of contemporary portraiture. You probably think this show is about you.
