SUPERNOVA Outdoor Digital Animation Festival is the only forum of its kind in the world to exclusively focus on the convergence of technology and animation. The two day festival is set to take place on Friday September 22nd with an all-day education forum and evening launch party, followed by screenings throughout the day and evening on Saturday, September 23rd on large-scale L.E.D. screens situated in the heart of downtown Denver, Colorado including a special competition screening in the Denver Performing Arts Complex outdoor Galleria.
SUPERNOVA will bring distinguished guest jurors Faiyaz Jafri, Raquel Meyers and Peter Burr to Colorado for the second edition of the festival, to discuss their work and careers during the education forum and to select cash prize awards in amounts between one and two thousand dollars. The three jurors have been chosen for their pioneering work within the fields of new media, contemporary art and digital motion graphics on an international level as well as their involvement previously as SUPERNOVA 2016 award winners and participants in Denver Digerati’s six years of ongoing programming.

SUPERNOVA utilizes a robust international artist network and unique infrastructure developed by Denver Digerati through its series Friday Flash - one of the nation's leading outdoor digital art programs. Friday Flash served as a new public art viewing experience illuminating how technology is altering all facets of our daily lives in extraordinary ways. Friday Flash dovetailed into SUPERNOVA in 2016 as a singular example of innovation within an urban context, promoting a relaxed and rewarding visual experience like no other for free to the public.
SUPERNOVA 2017 programming will reprise popular sections such as Student Shorts & Animation For All Ages, Everything Abstract, Director’s Choice, Machinima and Gaming Related Animations, as well as Music Videos. Our 2017 solo artist spotlight will feature a retrospective of works by Jeremy Couillard, one of the most brilliant and fast-rising artists in the world today using technology across platforms of gaming, animation, installation and still image in contemporary art. Additional programming is under development and will be announced later in the summer.
SUPERNOVA is presented by Denver Digerati with long-term support from Denver Arts And Venues Next Stage NOW! and the Denver Theatre District, with additional support through the Biennial of the Americas.
