The Rhode Island School of Design Department of Digital + Media is now seeking applications to our MFA program. The deadline for completed applications is January 10.

The Digital + Media program offers a two-year research and studio based Master of Fine Arts Degree. The program occupies a dynamic zone where art, science, technology and philosophy meet. Each year, we admit a talented and diverse cohort from a variety of fields including studio art, computing, engineering, science, anthropology, and more.

Within Digital + Media, disciplines that have traditionally been divided become fluid and porous. Over the last ten years, the program has established a space at RISD where our graduate students may articulate new questions and interrogate new relationships through their artwork. Within this evolving space, students explore a variety of topics and ask fundamental questions about human nature, knowledge, technology, economics, and geography.

RISD is consistently ranked as one of the top Art and Design schools worldwide. Last year, Quacquarelli Symonds, the UK’s 120-year old public research institution, placed RISD third in the world. The RISD alumni network includes many renowned artists such as Kara Walker, Andrea Zittel, Jenny Holzer, Shepard Fairey, Do-Ho Suh, Janine Antoni, James Franco, Seth MacFarlane and Gus Van Sant. Our alums are teachers, curators, and artists whose work has been exhibited all over the world.

The program offers financial assistance through assistantships and teaching opportunities, including RISD’s cutting-edge Winter Session teaching model that allows select graduate students to prototype experimental courses. Throughout the MFA, students can access the resources provided by our award-winning career services center and the RISD Writing Center.

RISD’s Digital + Media program is based in the lively heart of downtown Providence, which was named “America’s favorite city” by Travel and Leisure and called “the coolest city in the country” by GQ.
