The College of Architecture and Design at Lawrence Technological University is seeking outstanding candidates for a full‐time tenure‐track Assistant Professor position in Interaction Design. The successful candidate will teach a full‐time faculty workload, as defined by the University's Faculty Handbook. The appointee will be expected to assume a leadership role at the University in mapping new directions in Interaction Design. It is anticipated that the appointment will commence in August 2017.
Qualifications
Candidates should hold an MFA, MDes, DDes, Ph.D. or an equivalent degree in a related field from an accredited institution in Interaction Design, Interactive Media, Graphic Design. Individuals holding a Ph.D. within closely allied fields such as Human Computer Interaction are also encouraged to apply.
Successful candidates will exhibit the proven ability to develop original creative work which shows a mastery of interaction design as well as the processes and tools required to create it. A strong understanding of the history and critical theory of interaction design or graphic design is also expected. Critical to the success of this program will be the candidate’s ability to form collaborations and/or curricular partnerships with other intra‐ and extra‐College academic units, the ability to work collegially and collaboratively with faculty and staff, and a history of practice‐based innovation in the area of interaction design.
Additional desirable skills and experience include the ability to generate and develop extramural funding and relationships with industry and/or communities.
Applicants must have current experience with as many of the following as possible: user experience design, user interface design, information architecture, research strategies, usability, user and task analysis, user interface specification, design methodology and prototyping. Advanced production skills for various platforms including the web, social media, and mobile devices are required. Experience in one or more of the following is desired: agile/mobile design, gaming, human centered design, internet of things, product design, research methods/ethnography, universal design, virtual/augmented reality, visual communication/graphic design, and wearable technology. Eloquent communication skills, collegial personality and a willingness to become actively involved in the functioning of the department including academic advisement, curriculum development, assessment and recruitment are essential.
Preference will be given to candidates with a combination of practice‐based studio and lecture‐based teaching experience at the college level, a strong record of professional accomplishment, an active record of consulting and/or publication, and the ability to work with and advise a diverse student body.
