“Holding Space” is an exhibition of visual and performative work by artists who identify as survivors of sexual trauma, relationship violence or abuse. This exhibition is an exploration of survivorship and intimacy through the lens of experiences that we did not ask for or deserve, and the interpersonal relearning that must occur in its aftermath. It is a place to process our truths and externalize our healing process. "Holding Space” is created by artists and audience; we believe each other, we lean on each other, we are holding each other up.
We are makers healing through art by creating and holding space for each other.
We are held in a space of survivorship and remembering without our choosing.
We are forming new spaces to experience intimacy and safety, holding ourselves and our partners accountable for our wellbeing.
We are redefining what it is to be physically present with one another and to hold each other close.
