Call for Applications: Summer Docu Work-In-Progress Lab

  • Deadline:
    May 27, 2016, 5:05 p.m.
  • Location:
Downtown Community Television Center (DCTV) 87 Lafayette Street New York, NY 10013

Bring your documentary rough-cut to its next brilliant cut in DCTV’s Docu Work-In-Progress Lab! Submit your independent documentary projects that could highly benefit from dedicated feedback and crit-building germane to your editing process. The deadline is Friday, May 27, 2016.

DCTV triannually invites a professional filmmaker to facilitate an intimate, monthlong guided workshop in which accepted participants critique one another's work over the duration of four screening/discussion sessions, providing crucial insight for each other in a supportive and constructive environment. Outside of these sessions, participants are expected to cut two new iterations based on the discussions before culminating in a final screening/showcase in which their most refined cut is presented for closing feedback with a special guest.

This year's facilitator will be Emmy Award winning writer, director and producer Lana Wilson, whose feature doc AFTER TILLER premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2013, was nationally broadcast on PBS, and went on to be theatrically released by Oscilloscope Laboratories in 50 North American cities.

The guest critic will be film editor David Teague whose work includes Oscar-winning and Emmy-winning documentaries (CUTIE AND THE BOXER, FREEHELD, THE IRAN JOB, E-TEAM). His work has played at Sundance, Cannes, Berlin, Hot Docs, SXSW, Silverdocs/AFI Docs, Tribeca, LA Film Fest, Full Frame, and True/False, amongst many others. He has served as an editing mentor with the IFP Documentary Labs and the Karen Schmeer Film Editing Fellowship, and has taught editing at DCTV, Union Docs, the Manhattan Edit Workshop, the New School, Brooklyn College and Long Island University. He is also the author of three best-selling guides to film editing with Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Express.

Past facilitators and guest crits have included Kelly Anderson & Matt O'Neill, Iva Radivojevic & Charlotte Cook, Sarah Hagey, Jay Sterrenberg, and Bryan Chang.
