Since its foundation in 1999, the “Archive of Digital Art” (ADA) (www.digitalartarchive.at) documents the evolving world of digital art and its related disciplines. With direction and scientific conception of Prof. Dr. Oliver Grau (DanubeU, Austria), today ADA is the most complex scholarly archive in the field. It represents an evaluated selection of thousands of artworks at the intersection of art, science and technology. Artists and scholars are able to actively contribute documentation to the archive and collaboratively analyse digital artworks. For this goal to be achieved, cutting-edge collaborative web tools have been implemented to meet the demands of the field. Further, featured artists and online exhibitions are organised, increasing interest and promoting participation in this vivid cultural resource.
Viola Ruehse who has been involved in the project for the last three years as a coordinator and researcher will present the “Archive of Digital Art” at Harvestworks. Afterwards, a group discussion will address the current needs of the international digital art community and the documentation of digital art.
