The Department of Design Media Arts (DMA) within the UCLA School of Arts and Architecture invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position. Candidates should have a demonstrated expertise and recognition in design and/or media arts. We are interested in candidates with strong research, practice, and teaching interests in the space of the web and mobile devices within one or more of the following areas or approaches: interface and interaction design; game design and game art; media art; and social media. Candidates must have an M.F.A., a Ph.D., or an equivalent degree in a related field by date of hire, a strong record of professional achievement, and evidence of teaching, preferably at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
The Department of Design Media Arts is committed to educating conscientious designers and artists by teaching the fundamentals of design, digital media, and the arts, and encouraging experimentation and innovation. Providing an extensive education in design and media arts practice, history and criticism, the department fosters a critical and creative exploration of emerging forms in design and media art.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach studio courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and undertake independent research and creative activity appropriate for advancement within the University of California. S/he will enhance DMA's capacity as a research incubator and creative forum, advancing the program's profile for artistic and technological innovation grounded in critical thinking and art making. There is an expectation of service within the department and university.

Level of appointment and salary will be commensurate with qualification and professional experience. The anticipated appointment date is July 1, 2016.
