The School of Art at Illinois State University is seeking a full-time tenure-track assistant/associate professor of graphic design to begin August 16, 2016. This is a nine month, continuous position. The successful candidate will teach at all levels in the undergraduate graphic design sequence, with an emphasis in interactive and time-based media.
Responsibilities include teaching three courses per semester, continued engagement in professional research activities, and service to the university. An MFA in Graphic Design/ Visual Communications or Masters of Graphic Design is required, and teaching experience beyond the graduate assistantship level is preferred. Evidence of innovative professional activity is essential. Candidates must be able to demonstrate oral proficiency in the English language as a requirement for this position, as mandated by state law.
The graphic design sequence challenges students to demonstrate strong typographic and methodological skills, innovative conceptual thinking, and design research for both print and interactive projects. Therefore, applicants should demonstrate exceptional teaching and creative production skills in traditional design and emerging digital media. The candidate will join our faculty prepared with progressive ideas for instruction, working within our flexible and collaborative curriculum.
Faculty in the graphic design program enjoy small class settings, closely engaging with students to develop fully considered and high-quality work. In addition to an active internship program, our graphic design students have the opportunity to participate in Design Streak, a pre-professional student organization offering graphic design services to small businesses, organizations, and institutions throughout Central Illinois.
Applications will be accepted until January 4, 2016. Please submit a single pdf document that includes a letter of application, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, and statement of creative philosophy.
