I had my two-week old iPhone 4S stolen out of my purse on the Subway on Sunday. I used the Find My iPhone selection on iCloud to locate it to a building on Eighth Avenue and W. 50 Street, but there were a lot of apartments in the building and the iPhone couldn't get me closer to it than to the building itself. I sent various messages saying that I was downstairs, that it was my iPhone, etc. The thief just turned off the iPhone. I reported this incident to the Transit Police who told me that this happens every day. She said,"They don't steal wallets anymore, just iPhones and iPads." I want someone out there to invent an App that will make an iPhone or iPad self-destruct when instructed to. I think that if enough people self-immolate their stolen iPhones or iPads, it would discourage further theft.
