What graduate programs do you think have the best digital media / new media / multidisciplinary practices ? The last conversation on this topic seems to be from 2004
I have been looking at UC Santa Barbara's Digital Media MFA program

and CAL Arts Integrated Media
http://calarts.edu/art/programs/integratedmedia
as well as their Art & Technology program

Hi Sterling-
As a reference, I would look through Rhizome's New Media Programs list - there's a ton of info about various graduate MFA programs in New Media in that section of the site:

Hope this helps!

Sterling,
I can personally vouch for NYU's ITP. Lots of amazing things happening there, though it's not strictly an arts program, but you'll definitely get lots of multidisciplinary tech training:

Also check out Parson's D&T program, which is also top notch:

Both have faculty/profs who are very active in contemporary arts and tech practices.

Hey Sterling,
Definitely check the New Media program list with Rhizome first. I'm in the MFA program at RISD right now and can say that it offers a lot of flexibility and resources to students. As a note, we're in the middle of an international search for a new department head which should end at the end of this academic year. Feel free to email me if you have any extra questions. The programs website is here: http://dm.risd.edu
You can also cruise this mega list of national new media programs:
http://www.iupui.edu/~j21099/nmschools.html
It's not exclusively MFA but it's a good starting point for broader research on schools.
I know SVA just started an Interdisciplinary MFA program that might be worth checking out:

I've had a few friends who have gone to ITP too that had a good experience. The RISD program is geared more toward Fine Art and you can take courses at Brown - ITP is more technically focused. At least that's my understanding.
best,
jason
hey Sterling,
I was in this boat a year ago and also sought rhizome's collective digital wisdom. In addition to the long list of specs one goes through when choosing a grad program I'd like to through out one that was key for me: community (if you're the type that believes in it). Both within and outside the institution - it was important for me to go somewhere that had an active scene/community that supported + challenged the kind of work I do. I'm partial to new media work of the "dirty" variety which in the end landed me at the school of the art institute of Chicago - which has some amazing faculty/students + is located in Chicago which outside the school has a very involved community of artists – it's really made my experience.

Hello I'm Mauro an italian artist that is looking for a Masster of art in multidiscipline New Media, Science, Performance.
Do you know somethings like that in Europe?
Hi Mauro,
Again, a great initial resource is the Rhizome list of New Media Programs. We have programs listed and linked in the States and Abroad. I think there is a good school in the south of France. If I find the link I'll post here.
Good luck,
Jason
Hi,
Does anyone know where I can find Rhizome's list of New Media programs? The link above is broken, as is the "New Media Resources" link in the footer. Thanks!
