Hi everyone,
Was hoping someone might be able to suggest some reading or some artists to look at regarding "Web 2.0" or art video on the internet. I'm looking into the role of video in the atmosphere of the internet. I would very much appreciate any suggestions of critical/theoretical essays, books or writers on the topic of web 2.0/internet video in relation to art. Also, if you have any suggestions of artists who are working online using video…
I am particularly interested in politically engaged work, but would like to see work which is not overtly political as well…
Thanks very much in advance,
Amanda
Hi Amanda
I assume you've trawled through the archives of the front page of Rhizome itself? Lots of good video stuff.
There's also DVblog :
http://www.dvblog.org
where we post an art video (or something of interest to those involved with art video) every weekday…
There's an uneven but stimulating book from 2007 about YouTube ( downloadable as a pdf) here:

also worth looking over at PAM:

best wishes

Hi Michael,
Thanks very much for the links - they look like just what I'm looking for…
Cheers,
Amanda
Thanks for the links Michael and Amanda, this is an enormous, enormous topic! Thanks for bringing it up. Just a quick point: if you're writing this up for a paper, I would be careful to distinguish "Web 2.0" and online video as separate categories. It seems like you're collapsing them into the same thing here.
I second Michael suggestion that you go through Rhizome's blog to find artists working in online video - there are quite a few.
Rhizome's been heavily involved with this area for some time, in terms of Rhizome-specific resources related to online video and web 2.0, I would consult:
